FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Five months after hoisting the Northeast Conference championship trophy, the Sacred Heart University football team will be back on the gridiron. The Pioneers released their fall 2021 schedule on Wednesday with the season opener set for September 4 against Bucknell.
"We're looking forward to getting back to playing 11 games this fall," head coach Mark Nofri said. "The spring schedule was outstanding in terms of giving the student-athletes a chance to compete for an NEC championship and FCS playoff berth. This fall's schedule has some outstanding academic institutions with Dartmouth, Bucknell and Howard. The NEC is very competitive from top to bottom. Our players will be ready when the season opens."
Following the season opener, the Pioneers start conference action when they travel to Bryant on September 11. SHU comes back to Campus Field to face Morgan State then goes on the road to take on Dartmouth (September 25) and Howard (October 2) in the first meeting between the two programs.
Homecoming is October 9 when the Pioneers welcome Merrimack for the first of three-straight home games. The battle for the Nutmeg State is October 16 as Central Connecticut State comes to Campus Field. Duquesne will be in town on October 23 in a rematch of the NEC Championship game.
