FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University women's rugby team dropped its opening contest of the season 48-24 against in-state rival Quinnipiac this afternoon.

- The Bobcats took an early first half lead scoring three straight tries to take a commanding 21-0 lead.
- The Pioneers were able to get on the scoreboard in the opening half with a penalty kick conversion by Alyssa Cunningham to shorten the Bobcats lead to 21-3.
- Cunningham led the Pioneers in scoring as she racked up a total of 14 points with one try and three made conversions in the loss.
- Quinnipiac was too strong in the end as three tries in the second half would lead to a 48-24 victory for Quinnipiac.
