SHU students can still claim tickets online
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sold out college football games are rare in this part of the country, but there are no available general admission tickets for Sacred Heart's October 15 Family Weekend 1 p.m. kickoff against Stonehill. The tickets sold out the same day they were offered.
"We don't like turning fans away, but we simply cannot have any more people at Campus Field that day," said Judy Ann Riccio, SHU's director of athletics. "It's a nice problem to have, but that does not make it comfortable for us."
Although general admissions tickets are sold out, student tickets are still available for Sacred Heart students only. They can claim them through Sacred Heart ticket's account.
The 6,595 fans who came out for the Pioneers' 2022 home opener on a beautiful September 24 afternoon were treated to a come-from-behind, overtime win against Dartmouth, the school with the most Ivy League football championships. However, it may have been more impressive to have 3,188 on October 1 during a wind and rainstorm.
The school will bring in temporary bleachers for Family Weekend, and the capacity will be 7,500. Reaching that mark depends on student attendance. There will be 2,000 people at The Outpost Beer Garden, which sold out within five minutes. The Pioneers' Tailgate Village is also sold out.
Fortunately for those who don't have tickets, the game airs live for free on NEC Front Row.
SHU, which averaged more than any school in the state last fall other than UConn and Yale with 5,116 fans, is on target to do the same or better this year. The Pios ranked third in all of Division I football in relationship to capacity. Ironically, the Pioneers will face both the Huskies and Bulldogs at their places next year.
The standard for Campus Field was set with 7,327 fans on October 23, 2021, during a 31-13 win over Duquesne. That ignited the Pioneers to their third straight NEC Championship.
