Grab Second NEWHA Win
SHELTON, Conn. — Sacred Heart was back in NEWHA action Tuesday afternoon beating Post University 3-0 at the Rinks. Five Pioneers got on the scoresheet with a point and Molly Elmore posted the shutout.
First year Kailey Smith grabbed her first career goal 19:47 into the game to get the scoring started for the Pioneers. Paige McNeil and Nicole Guidi got the assists in the first tally. McNeil followed up with her fourth goal of the season 5:13 into the second period, and two and a half minutes later, Delani Mackay notched her second on the year.
The Pioneers held a 36-11 edge in shots and got a power-play goal in the second period, the fourth of the year.
"I'm happy with the win and the three really pretty goals that were scored," head coach Tom O'Malley said. "We need to do a better job of getting off the wall; we'll have a lot more opportunities if we're out in the open and Post can't match our speed."
"I'm happy to walk away with two NEWHA points heading into the weekend against Saint Anselm," O'Malley said. "Molly Elmore played very sharp today and has really stepped it up."
Elmore finished with 11 saves, including a couple of quality chances for Post.
The Pioneers have a pair of conference games this weekend at Manchester, N.H., against Saint Anselm. The first game will be Friday at 7 p.m. and the latter match Saturday at 3 p.m.
