SHU GAME NOTES
The Sacred Heart Men's Hockey Team looks to improve its win streak to three with a pair of Atlantic Hockey contests at Niagara this weekend. The Pioneers and Purple Eages (2-2, 0-2 AH) drop the puck on Friday at 7 before returning Saturday at 5:30. Both games air live on FloSports TV.
SERIES
Niagara has a 16-13-2 edge on SHU after a split of both weekends and four games overall last winter. NU won 5-4 in OT up North before SHU grabbed the back end of the series 2-1. NU won the first game of both weekends last season. At Bridgeport, it was 4-1 Purple Eagles and then 3-1 SHU.
PIONEERS
SHU, which notched consecutive road wins for the first time since November of last season at Air Force, swept Holy Cross at Worcester last weekend by a combined 8-3 while getting two goals from Todd Goehring and three points from Marcus Joughin. Justin Robbins earned the win, 3-2, on Friday before Luke Lush stopped 22 shots in a 5-1 contest at the Hart Center.
PURPLE EAGLES
Niagara, which opened the season with a sweep of Nebraska-Omaha on the road, lost twice at home last weekend to defending AHA champion AIC, 6-3 and 5-2. Carter Randklev and Jay Ahearn each had two goals last weekend for the Purple Eagles. Chad Veltri got the start on Friday, while Ryan Ouellette had game two in net for NU.
ROSTER
The SHU roster includes 15 forwards, 11 blueliners and four goalies, as well as players from eight states and four countries. There are four graduate students, nine seniors, five juniors, four sophomores and seven first years among the 29 players.
CT ICE IS ON CAMPUS THIS YEAR
The third edition of CT Ice is slated for Jan. 27-28 at Quinnipiac's People United Center. The tournament, featuring the four Division I schools in the Nutmeg State and conceived by SNY, had been played in Total Mortgage Arena as a neutral site. Now it will rotate through the four campus venues. Game times are 4 and 7:30 p.m. and air live on SNY both days. SHU, which faces QU in game two the first day, won the inaugural event in 2020, the tournament was canceled the following winter and Quinnipiac took the 2022 title.
