SHU Game Notes

The SHU Men's Hockey Team (7-7-1, 7-4-1 AH) returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 6, when Hockey East's Northeastern (7-6-3, 6-4-2 HE) comes to Bridgeport for the Pios' final contest before the exam and holiday break. That 7 p.m. game airs live on FloSports TV from Total Mortgage Arena.

THE SERIES

Northeastern has won the four meetings with SHU while outscoring the Pios 24-5. They played a weekend set at Boston in 2017 and then NU came to Bridgeport the following winter for a pair.

PIONEERS

A dozen different players had points, including forward Kevin Lombardi with two goals and one assist and forward Austin Magera with 1-1-2, as SHU snapped a five-game skid in a 6-3 win over Bentley on Nov. 26 at Total Mortgage Arena. The Pios outshot the Falcons 47-26 and senior goalie Luke Lush made 23 saves. Sacred Heart broke open a close game in the second period with three goals in 2:43 to increase its lead to 4-0. SHU, which played five straight games without graduate forward Ryan Steele (11 gp, 5-4-9), who was home after a death in the family, used its third six-goal game this season to remain in second place in Atlantic Hockey with 23 points. The Pios, who had last weekend off, had three games the prior week, including a 2-1 loss at Cornell and a 3-1 loss to Bentley at home. Lush equaled his career-high by stopping 30 of 31 shots at Ithaca.

PIO POINTS

SHU has 16 skaters with goals, while five players have double-digit point totals… The Pios have two goalies with starts, Luke Lush has the last nine, while Justin Robbins had the first two before an injury.

NORTHEASTERN

The Huskies are in third place in Hockey East with 22 points, though they are coming off a 3-2 loss at Union on Saturday night and have lost three straight despite scoring nine goals combined in those games. One of those contests was a 6-4 decision with Western Michigan at the Ford Center in Nashville, Tenn. NU has wins over Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire and BU. A pair of Huskies have hit the net 10 times each this season: Aidan McDonough has 22 points while Justin Hryckowian 20.

MATCHUP

The only common opponent for SHU and NU is Providence. The Pios opened the season with a 6-1 loss at PC, while the Huskies fell to the Friars in game three at Matthews Arena, 2-1. Northeastern is averaging 3.2 goals and giving up 2.3, while Sacred Heart is at 3.1 and 2.9.
