Trudeau Nets Another Hat Trick as Pios Down Sharks, 7-2

SHU's seven goals is a new season high

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Felix Trudeau tallied his second hat trick in three games as the Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team scored a season high seven goals in a 7-2 victory over LIU on Saturday evening at the Martire Family Arena.

Records:
SHU: 6-5-1
LIU: 5-8-0

How It Happened:
The Pioneers opened tonight's scoring 4:04 into the first period. Vitaly Levyy lit the lamp first, capitalizing on a breakout following a beautiful backhand pass from Jack Hillier. After taking the pass in the neutral zone, Levyy beat a defender before burying a shot glove side.

After the Sharks evened the score a little over three minutes later, Mikey Adamson rebuilt the SHU advantage at 10:54, 2-1. Adamson intercepted a pass off the boards then sniped the top left corner for his third goal of the season and the 20th of his collegiate career.

Trudeau continued SHU's momentum with the next two goals, scoring at 15:15 and again at 18:05 on a power play. The senior's first goal came on a quick transition attempt, as he took a pass from Stephane Huard before shielding himself from one defenseman and deking another before going backhand into the goal. The power play strike came off a lovely cross-ice pass from Marcus Joughin, as Trudeau one-timed a shot to the top glove-side corner.

The defense settled in during the second period, as neither team scored in the frame. Ajeet Gundarah made a couple of big saves, helping to keep the Sharks at bay over two power plays in the frame, as the Pios maintained a 4-1 advantage going into the third.

The Pioneers poured it on in the third period, with three goals. Trudeau's third goal was sandwiched between strikes from Ethan Wolthers and Joshua Barnes. Trudeau's goal came on the power play, while Wolthers and Barnes scored in 5-on-5 play. The trio of Pioneers' goals iced the victory at 7-2, a new season-high scoring output for the team.

Between the pipes, Gundarah made 33 saves, keeping the Sharks to just two goals, one coming on the power play. Gundarah is now 6-4-1 on the season.
