Trudeau scored his 25th goal of the season, which is now second in the country
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – We are going to a third and final game in the Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) semifinals tomorrow, as the second-seeded Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team suffered a 5-2 loss to No. 3 Robert Morris on Saturday evening at the Martire Family Arena.
Records:
SHU: 22-13-3
Robert Morris: 16-20-3
How It Happened
Unlike yesterday, the Pioneers took the lead in the first period of game two, as Felix Trudeau sniped a power play goal 5:10 into tonight's contest. Just 46 seconds into the extra-man opportunity, Trudeau wrapped in front of the crease and took a pass from Reid Pabich before firing a one-timer while back skating.
SHU's 1-0 lead lasted until 1:37 in the second period, as the Colonials wasted no time in the frame evening the score at 1-1. RMU added goals at 11:14 and 14:53 to wrestle away momentum and to build a 3-1 advantage.
However, SHU did not stay down, as Marcus Joughin scored at 16:22 to trim the margin to one, 3-2. Joughin tipped a Liam Lesakowski shot from the left point to draw the game closer heading into the third.
Unfortunately for the Pioneers, a goal by the Colonials 1:19 into the third proved made the margin insurmountable. An empty netter in the final three minutes iced the final score at 5-2.
Ajeet Gundarah suffered his first loss since November, as today ended a six-game win streak for the sophomore. Gundarah made 22 saves.
