ALL-AHA HONORS
After helping to lead the Pioneers to the second seed in the AHA Postseason, seniors Felix Trudeau and Mikey Adamson were named First Team All-AHA for the first time in their careers. Their recognition follows strong individual performances and a successful regular season for the team.
Trudeau is having one of the best seasons in program history, sitting four goals shy of breaking the SHU single-season goals record. He leads the AHA in goals (24) and points (43), with the former tied for second in the country. He also leads the country with 11 power-play goals, is second with 2 hat tricks, and is third with 0.69 goals per game.
Adamson has played in all 36 games in his final collegiate season, leading the conference with a career-high 26 points and ranking second with 30 points. Adamson is tied for the lead in the country in assists by defensemen, as he has the fifth-most assists in a season by a Pioneer.
PROGRAM RECORD WINS
With Saturday's clinching win over the Purple Eagles, the Pioneers tied their program record in wins with 21. SHU has won 21 games in a season five times, including in back-to-back campaigns. The 2025-26 season marks the fourth time head coach C.J. Marottolo has reached 20+ wins on the bench, as he eyes his second career appearance in the AHA Championship game.
LAST TIME OUT
The Pioneers swept Niagara in the AHA Quarterfinals, claiming a 3-1 and a 2-1 win at the Martire Family Arena. SHU struck first in the opener, scoring on the power play 15:22 into game one. Reid Pabich netted the score, his 12th of the season. The Purple Eagles answered 1:44 into the second to even the score at 1-1 before Vitaly Levyy potted the eventual game-winner at 15:46. A contentious third period followed, with Trudeau icing the win with an empty-netter in the final 2:09.
Game two started even tighter, as the first goal was not scored until the second period. Paul Minnehan broke the deadlock with a snipe from the right point at 2:34. Again, Niagara answered, sending the game to the third tied at 1-1. For the second straight night, Levyy scored the game-winner, this time with 9:12 left in regulation to seal a 2-1 SHU win.
In goal, Ajeet Gundarah started both games and made 52 saves on 54 shots, improving to 11-5-1 on the season.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
After a bumpy start to the season, the Colonials have hit their stride in the second half of the season. RMU went 9-3-1 to end league play after starting 4-8-1 in the first half of the season. The late-season surge helped Robert Morris improve to 13-18-3 overall and to secure the No. 3 seed in the AHA Tournament. The Colonials opened the postseason with a 2-1 series win over No. 6 Niagara. After a double-overtime loss in the first game, RMU bounced back to take the next two games by three goals each.
RMU's resurgence was highlighted by its defense, as it held its opponents to one or fewer goals in seven of its last 11 victories. A reason for this late-season defensive push is the Colonials' ability to get in front of pucks, as they lead the country in blocks. Freshman goaltender Charlie Schenkel commands the crease as he owns 10 of the Colonials' 15 wins in 27 appearances. He holds a 2.67 goals against average with a .915 save percentage.
Offensively, juniors Tanner Klimpke and Jackson Reineke lead the RMU forwards with 29 and 25 points, respectively. Klimpke paces the team in both goals (14) and assists (15).
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Pioneers and Colonials will meet for the 36th time on Friday, with RMU holding a 23-11-1 lead in the all-time series. Despite the deficit, SHU has won 10 straight meetings and 11 of the last 12. RMU has not beaten the Pioneers since 2018.
UP NEXT
The Pioneers eye their third appearance in the AHA Championship game, scheduled for Saturday, March 21. SHU made the title game in 2004 and 2010.
