Box Score NORTH HAVEN, Conn. – For the first time since 2011, the Sacred Heart University men's tennis team topped in-state foe Quinnipiac, 4-3, on Sunday night.
SHU's second-straight victory moves its record to 3-7.
The two teams each grabbed a doubles win before
Matyas Vencl and
Ayman Khan solidified the point for the Pioneers. The tandem overcame their opponent in the tiebreaker, 7(4)-6.
The Pioneers grabbed in first and third singles thanks to
William Wibmer and Vencl, but fell in fourth, fifth, and sixth singles. With the team score tied at three-all, the match came down to
Lefteri Apostolou in second singles. After winning the first set tiebreaker, the sophomore came back from a 4-1 deficit to force a second tiebreaker and clinched the match, 7-4.
Sacred Heart takes a week off before hitting the courts again on Tuesday, March 8 in Orlando, Fla. Against Radford.
