Baseball Falls in Ninth Inning at URI, 10-6

George Sutherland led the Pioneers with two runs and an RBI.

KINGSTON, RI. — A strong bottom of the ninth inning cemented a 10-6 loss for the Sacred Heart University baseball on the road at the University of Rhode Island on Wednesday.

Of Note: 

Ryan Donnelly ignited the scoring for the Pioneers with a sacrifice fly to left field to bring Justin Jordan in the opening inning. URI tied the game with a sacrifice fly to left field to knot the game in the first, 1-1. 

A strong four-run third inning put SHU up, 5-1. Sam Mongelli tripled down the left field line that allowed Jordan to score his second run of the game. SHU remained hot with Donnelly and George Sutherland coming home off two singles to right field. 

The Red & White continued its hot streak in the fifth inning as Dante D'amore singled through the left side to allow Sutherland to cross the plate. 

The Rams inched closer towards the Pioneers lead with a two-run homer out to centerfield in the sixth inning. Rhode Island tallied three more runs in the eighth to tie the score at six a piece. 

A walk-off grand-slam in the bottom of the ninth sealed a 10-6 win for URI. 

Jack Kramer opened for 5.2 innings with one run on a pair of hits with a career-high eight strikeouts.
