
Saad Named NEC Most Improved Player

Alyssa Gonzalez was named First Team All-NEC, Jenna Mowad and Amy Petrovich named to Second Team
SOMERSET, N.J. – After a career season for sophomore Grace Saad of the Sacred Heart University softball team, she earned Most Improved Player of the Year in the Northeast Conference's end of year awards on Wednesday. Alyssa Gonzalez was named to First Team while Jenna Mowad and Amy Petrovich garnered Second Team All-NEC honors.
This is the first NEC recognition for the Ventura, Calif. native. A season ago, Saad carried a .158 batting average with just five hits, one double and one home run in her first-year campaign. In the 2021-22 season, Saad jumped the batting ranks and led the team with an average of .345 off 49 hits, which placed her eighth in the NEC. She also tied for second in triples with two on the year. Saad recorded a nine and eight game hit streak this season while nailing 12 multi-hit games.
Gonzalez captured her second-straight First Team All-NEC honor as she tallied 12 home runs which placed for second in the NEC. The Beaumont, Calif. native led the Pioneers with 28 RBI's on the year as she sat ninth in the NEC ranks. Against UMass Lowell, she recorded a pair of home runs to help SHU to a 7-2 triumph. She then posted a season-high three RBI's against Fairfield. For her career, she now leads the program in home runs with 37 and sits fifth in program history with 100 RBI's.
For the third time in her career, Petrovich was named to the Second Team All-NEC. The East Hanover, N.J. native tallied eight doubles with 16 RBI's on the year. She tallied a pair of three hit games coming against Central Connecticut State and on against Mount St. Mary's. She also recorded a triple and two home runs during the 2021-22 campaign.
Mowad captured her first All-NEC honor with a Second Team selection. The sophomore sat second on the team in batting average at .328 and led the team with 49 hits alongside eight doubles, one triple and seven home runs. She placed tied for third on the team in hits with 38 and posted seven doubles and 12 RBI's. The Prospect, Conn. native tallied her first career home run on March 12 against South Dakota State.
