
Pioneers Continue Road Stretch Saturday at Morgan State

On the road for the third game in a row, the Sacred Heart University football team travels to Morgan State. The two teams square off at noon on Saturday at Hughes Field. Two teams met last season with the Pioneers taking the contest, 21-7. Sacred Heart (1-1) comes into the game after surviving a late scare at Central Connecticut State, 14-10. The Bears have dropped their first two contests and make their home debut under new head coach Damon Wilson.
OPENING KICKOFF
- Coming off its first win of the season, Sacred Heart plays the final of three-straight road games at Morgan State.
- The Pioneers defeated the Bears, 21-7, last season in the first meeting since 2012.
- Sacred Heart opened Northeast Conference play last Saturday with a 14-10 win over Central Connecticut State.
- Cornerback Arsheen Jiles sealed the victory in the final minutes with an interception in the end zone.
- Running back Malik Grant eclipsed the century mark for the first time at CCSU as he ran for 109 yards and a touchdown.
- Through two games, SHU leads the FCS allowing 58.0 passing yards per game. SHU is also top ten in tackles for a loss (2nd), total defense (3rd) and scoring defense (6th).
- Sacred Heart has a pair of players on national award watch lists. Malik Grant was named to the Walter Payton Award and CFPA Performer of the Year lists while defensive end Kevin Peprah was selected to the Buck Buchanan list.
