NEWARK, N.J.— The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team made a valiant effort, but fell to NJIT, 2-0, on Tuesday.
After a scoreless first half, Hugo Tavares notched NJIT's first goal off the assist from Jordi Navio Sanchez and Maximus Barboto in the 57
th minute. The Highlanders extended the lead to 2-0 after Sergio Martinez Cubel found Goncalo Franco at the net in the 60
th minute.
Lucas Miquel Castrillo had a season-high five shots with one on target.
The Pioneers had some good looks as they led in shots, 13-12, and 4-3 on goal. The Highlanders had the advantage in corner kicks, 7-3.
Sacred Heart begins conference play against Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Park Ave Field.
