Oban Birmingham Joins SHU Hockey Team

Team Impact Youngster Signs with Pioneers

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey head coach CJ Marottolo announced a new member of his team Monday after the signing of eight-year-old Oban Brimingham through Team IMPACT.
 
Oban, who is in remission from Lymphoma, was officially introduced at a signing day press conference at the Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport. Oban, who will participate in many activities with the men's hockey team including games, practices and other team events.
 
"We are thrilled to have Oban join our hockey family," said Marottolo. "He has an engaging personality that fits into our group, and I know that we will have a lot of fun together." 
 
Team IMPACT, a national non-profit organization, has developed a unique multiyear program that matches children facing serious illnesses and disabilities with college athletic teams across the country. Based on a clinical model, Team IMPACT guides a symbiotic relationship between teams and children focused on socialization, empowerment, and resilience.
 
"We are excited to see Oban officially join the Pioneer family," said Danielle Hardee, Regional Director of Programs, Northeast at Team IMPACT. "We are proud to partner with Sacred Heart University, their athletic department and coaching staff to create lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes between student-athletes and their Team IMPACT teammates."
 
Sacred Heart University has worked with Team IMPACT for the past three years, matching seven children across its men's basketball, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, and men's wrestling teams.
