SHU Hosts Knights for Pair at Shelton
SHELTON, Conn. – The Sacred Heart Women's Hockey Team opens the 2022-23 season by hosting No. 9 Clarkson twice this weekend. The first game is set for 4 p.m., Friday in what is the last home opener at the Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton.
The Pioneers, who will move into the new Martire Family Arena later this season, skate against the Knights again on Saturday at 2:30. Both games air live on NEC Front Row.
SHU went 16-15-2 last winter under head coach Tom O'Malley and returns four of its top six scorers and 57 of the 90 goals that were scored in 2021-2022. The new roster includes 16 forwards, 11 blueliners and three goalies, as well as players from eight different states including 10 from Massachusetts and six from Minnesota.
Clarkson, the 2017 national champions, finished last season 22-12-3, and nine of those 12 losses came to teams that advanced to the NCAA tournament. One of those defeats came in March to Wisconsin, 3-1, in the NCAA Tournament.
