LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (October 29, 2023) – The Sacred Heart University field hockey team will head into its first postseason appearance since 2019 on a four-game winning streak, after closing out the regular season with a 1-0 non-conference win at Lock Haven on Sunday afternoon. Isabelle Chamberlain (North Yorkshire, United Kingdom) had the lone goal of the game with just five minutes to play, while Brianna Cooper (Watertown, Mass.) made six saves for her first collegiate win and shutout.

For SHU (7-10), the four straight wins marks the longest winning streak for the program since the 2007 squad also won four consecutive games in October. The seven wins for the Pios are the most since the 2018 squad finished 8-12.

Sacred Heart will put its hot run on the line on Friday, when the team returns to the postseason for a date with Saint Francis in the semifinal round of the Northeast Conference Championship. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Wagner Field Hockey Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.

Most of Sunday's regular-season finale went rather uneventfully. Through three scoreless quarters, the two teams combined for just 11 shot attempts, with SHU holding a 7-4 advantage, which included a 6-2 margin in shots on goal.

It took 55 minutes, but the Pios finally broke through on a penalty corner late in the regulation. SHU ran a play to the top of the circle for Isabelle Chamberlain (North Yorkshire, United Kingdom), who swiped a shot through traffic, which found its way off the stick of a defender and home, for Chamberlain's team-leading eighth of the season. It would stand as the only goal of the game.

Cooper (1-1) made just the second start of her career and turned aside all six shots on her cage, including four in a busy fourth quarter, to post the clean sheet in her first college win. Kelsey Felix (5-12) stopped six of seven shots in defeat for Lock Haven.
