EASTON, Mass. – The Sacred Heart University women's swim team opened the season with a 133-110 victory over Stonehill. Sophia Velleco won three events each to lead SHU. The Pioneers competed in 14 individual events and a pair of relays.
Velleco won the 400-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle, and the 100-yard freestyle.
First year Amanda Conti was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.63.
First-year Maeve English picked up her first collegiate win in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:00.12. English was also right behind Velleco in the 100-freestyle, placing second with a time of 56.06.
Junior Rosemery Nieto delivered the fastest time for the Pioneers in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.91; junior Melanie Sanchez finished first among the Pioneers in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:12.86, and sophomore Charlotte Kaduson paced the Pios in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:21.86
