Minnetonka native takes team's fourth conference honor of season
NEWHA Release
WINTHROP, Mass. — Following an outstanding defensive display during the month of November, Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey defender Olivia LaRoche was named the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Defensive Player of the Month, the conference announced Thursday.
LaRoche helped anchor the Pioneers as they went 5-2 in conference play during the month, highlighted by two series sweeps over Franklin Pierce and Saint Michael's. The sophomore defender earned two points through the month, earning the primary assist on Sydney Antonakis' hat trick goal in the third period against FPU on November 3 before adding a helper on Iyla Ryskamp's second period tally that kickstarted a run of four-straight goals in SHU's 4-2 comeback win over Stonehill on November 11.
In addition to the two points, the native of Minnetonka, Minn., accumulated 17 blocked shots during the month, which led the conference. LaRoche tied her career-high in blocks (6) in SHU's loss to Yale in the Nutmeg Classic and blocked nine shots against conference foes during the month including three blocks on consecutive days against the Ravens.
