
Women’s Fencing Places in Two Weapons

Epee and Saber Take Third
Wellesley, Mass. — Grace Hand placed sixth and Nadia Gaberkorn placed eighth in individual women's epee as Sophie Witek placed sixth in individual women's saber from the Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse and Multipurpose Gymnasium on Saturday in the NEIFC Championship.
Saturday's NEIFC Championships crowned team, squad and individual champions in foil, epee, and sabre, with team competition beginning in squad round robins before an elimination round that included a round robin pool and bracket determined the individual champion in each weapon.
Foil
Jenna Jacinto, Emma Marchetta-Turner and Avalena Masi led the Pioneers to a sixth place team finish in women's team foil, besting notable schools such as Northeastern, Boston University and University of Rhode Island.
Epee
Nadia Gaberkorn, Grace Hand and Megan Hillyer led the red and white to a third place team finish for women's epee, placing behind only Wellesley College and Vassar College. Gaberkorn and Hand combined for five victories while Hillyer posted one herself, combining for 56 touches to help them to the third place finish.
Saber
Sophie Witek, Natalie Mataiev and Valery Krylova's efforts for the women's saber squad won them third place as a team behind Brown University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Witek finished second overall in the second pool, posting three victories and a +3 touch ratio.
