SHU Hopes to Make Move Up in Standings
FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey will have a home and home with LIU on Friday at 2 p.m. in Martire Family Arena and Saturday at 7 p.m. at Northwell Health Ice Center in Brookville, N.Y. Fans can watch on NEC Front Row and Friday's game is also a same-day tape delay on SNY.
The Pioneers enter the weekend at 13-15-2 overall and 10-9-1 in NEWHA after dropping a pair of conference games over the weekend to Franklin Pierce that put them fifth in the NEWHA standings. First-place LIU comes into the weekend with a 17-10-3 overall record and an impressive 16-1-3 record in NEWHA play.
Delani MacKay has scored a point in three of the last four competitions while Kailey Smith has notched a point in four of her last five skates. In Saturday's loss to Franklin Pierce, Molly Elmore and Carly Greene split playing time while combining for 28 saves. Elmore and Greene sit third and fifth in NEWHA standings for goals against with 2.44 and 2.63 marks, respectively. Greene's .920 save percentage ranks fourth across all NEWHA goalies, while Elmore's .682 win percentage leads all goaltenders across the conference.
LIUs Jeannie Waller leads the team with 27 points and +14, which ranks her fifth among all NEWHA skaters, while Carrigan Umpherville's 15 assists puts her at No. 4 in the NEWHA. Sharks goaltender Tindra Holm is top three in NEWHA with 687 saves places, but her 1.87 goals against average and .940 save percentage are No. 1.
The Sharks own a 12-5-1 record all time against SHU.
