
Pioneers Take Down Columbia & Western New England

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's wrestling team is going into next week's regional championship on a high note after a pair of dominating performances on Tuesday. The No. 7 Pioneers topped Columbia, 45-8, then cruised past Western New England, 44-5.
The wins improved the Pioneers record to 17-4.
A pair of forfeits and pins got SHU out to a quick 20-0 lead against Columbia. At 116 pounds, Nohea Moniz only needed 11 seconds to pin Eva Sedana. Sacred Heart rounded out the night with three more pins. Seventh-ranked Alexandra Fitzgerald bumped up to 136 pounds where she pinned Victoria Ngai in 26 seconds. Wrapping up the match was No. 5 Cara Broadus with a pin in 31 seconds over Talia Fine at 170 pounds.
Only four matches were contested against Western New England with SHU receiving forfeits in the other six. Moniz got her second pin of the night, putting Victoria Orender to the mat in just 35 seconds. Belen Rios was a winner at 123 pounds, pinning Sabrina Sedor 53 seconds into their match. The final bout was a 10-0 tech fall by Jacklyn Smith at 191 pounds.
Up next for the Pioneers is the Region I championship, February 18 at Gannon University.
