Daley named Wrestler of the Year, Larson Rookie of the Year after leading Pioneers to regional title
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart University women's wrestlers Love Daley and Josephine Larson continue to make program history, as the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced its inaugural NCAA Regional Wrestler and Rookie of the Year awards. Daley was named Region I Wrestler of the Year, while Larson earned Region I Rookie of the Year honors.
Both Daley (160) and Larson (207) played key roles in leading the Pioneers to the Region I Championship, marking the program's third regional title. Each claimed first place in their respective weight classes to secure berths in the inaugural NCAA Women's Wrestling National Championship.
Daley earned her recognition following a standout junior campaign. She placed seventh at 160 pounds at the national championship, securing her second All-American honor. She also captured her third regional title, dominating her bracket and finishing with a decisive pin over Western New England's Sky De Leon in just 49 seconds in the final. Daley concluded the season ranked among the team leaders in both pins (18) and technical falls (11).
Larson's Rookie of the Year honor caps an impressive freshman season. She earned All-American status with an eighth-place finish at 207 pounds at the national championship. Larson also ranked among the team's top performers, recording 12 pins and 10 technical falls during the season.
The NWCA is expected to announce the NCAA Women's National Wrestler of the Year and National Rookie of the Year later this week.
