Women’s Wrestling Sits Atop Standings After Day One of NCAA Region 1 Tournament

Seven Pioneers advance to finals as SHU posts 154.5 points
ELMIRA, N.Y. — The Sacred Heart University women's wrestling team delivered a dominant opening-day performance Saturday at the NCAA Region 1 Tournament, hosted by Elmira College, as the Pioneers surged to the top of the team standings and placed multiple wrestlers into championship contention.
Team Scores
Through the first day of competition, Sacred Heart totaled 154.5 points to take the team lead, edging Western New England (148.5) and outpacing Elmira (100), Felician (98), and D'Youville (77.5). The Pioneers set the tone early with aggressive, confident performances across the brackets, building momentum that carried through the afternoon sessions.

In addition, the Pioneers earned key placement opportunities in the consolation rounds. Lauren Nguyen (124) and Madi Canales (138) will wrestle for third place, while Bella Sowards (131) remains in contention for a fifth-place finish.
