SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Sacred Heart University women's track and field team competed in the throwing events on day one of the Black & Gold Invitational, hosted by Bryant.
The opening day of the Black & Gold Invite featured the shot put, hammer throw, and the 10,000 meters, as SHU had competitors in the shot put and hammer throw.
Abbie Mokwuah led the way for the Pios in both the shot put and hammer throw, finishing 15th in the former and 32nd in the latter. The graduate student from Longmeadow, Mass., recorded a toss of 10.96m in the shot put and a mark of 35.01m in the hammer.
Madeline Archangelo set a new outdoor PR in the shot put with a throw of 9.90m, while first year
Magdalena Brogioli competed in her first outdoor event and recorded a mark of 8.61m.
Because of the forecasted rain on Saturday, the Pioneers return to the track for day two of the Black & Gold Invitational on Sunday, Apr. 2.
