SHU Tallies Two Wins at Rider Invite

Mokwuah and Luba were victorious for the Pioneers

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Abbie Mokwuah and Kaitlyn Luba picked up wins to pace the Sacred Heart University women's track and field team at the Rider University Invite on Saturday in Lawrenceville, N.J. 

Mokwuah's stellar day was highlighted by earning a win in the shot put with a toss of 13.02m. She also led SHU in the discus with a toss of 32.67m to place seventh and had a 12th-place showing in the hammer throw. 

Luba also picked up a win for the Pios, taking first in the javelin with a throw of 40.40m. Marisa Imme (34.57m) placed next for SHU in fifth.  

Angela Kaiser continued her stellar outdoor campaign by placing second in the 1,500 meters with a personal-record time of 4:38.05. 

Magdalena Brogioli finished the day with three top-13 showings, highlighted by a second-place finish in the high jump (1.61m). The first year also claimed 11th in the long jump (5.24m) and 13th in the javelin (28.80m), the former being a new PR. 

Sacred Heart recorded two finishers in the top seven of the 400m hurdles. Ava Srinivasan clocked a time of 1:07.10 to claim third, while Jada Grant ran a time of 1:10.33 to place seventh. 

Jenna Engels and Sydney Abitanto finished in the top five of the pole vault, placing third and fifth, respectively. Engels cleared 3.40m, while Abitanto tallied a mark of 3.25m. 

The Pios tallied three top-nine finishers in the 100m hurdles, with Brooke DeWeese (16.03) taking sixth, Nicole Szilagyi (16.14) placing seventh, and Nicole Parise (17.66) finishing ninth. DeWeese and Parise both set new personal records in the event. 

Kelly Parker paced a trio of Pioneers to place in the top 11 of the 3,000m steeplechase in seventh with a PR of 12:16.72. Grace Miller (13:31.78) was next in ninth, while Rebecca Dowling (12:53.33) set a PR to take 11th. 

The duo of Jada Alston and Tessa Carminucci finished inside the top 10 of the 100 meters. Alston placed seventh with a PR time of 13.01, while Carminucci was 10th with a time of 13.30, just edging her teammate Megan Wassick (13.31) in 11th. 

The Pioneers placed second in both relay races today. The team of Srinivasan, Madeline Archangelo, Tori Chorzepa, and Leila Gary ran a time of 4:06.22 in the 4x400, while Brogioli, Gary, Wassick, and Alston clocked a 48.62 in the 4x100. 

The Pioneers hit the track again on Sunday, Apr. 30, for the Yale Springtime Invitational.
