All five Pios honored for first time
GREENWOOD, Ind. (May 17, 2023) – The Sacred Heart University baseball team has had five players named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, as announced on Tuesday. Graduate student Tyler Briggs (Franklin, Conn.), sophomore Charlie Costello (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), sophomore Dante D'Amore (Southington, Conn.), sophomore Zack Kovalchik (Archbald, Pa.) and sophomore Tim McGuire (Portsmouth, R.I.) were all honored, and will advance to the Academic All-America ballot.
To be eligible for selection, each student-athlete must own a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average or higher, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and have participated in at least half of their team's games (or pitched at least 10 innings). Schools were limited to five nominations per school, with all nominees who met the criteria earning Academic All-District honors. The Academic All-America Team will be voted on by sports information directors across the nation.
It was the first career Academic All-District selection for all five Pioneers. The Academic All-America Team is expected to be announced on Wednesday, June 7.
