Pioneer first year earns first conference award

SOMERSET, N.J. — Sacred Heart University women's cross country first year Grace DelGiorno has been named NEC Rookie of the Week in the 2023 inaugural awards release, the conference announced Wednesday.
DelGiorno, a native of Morris Plains, N.J., was one of three first year runners who scored for the Pioneers during last weekend's Marist Invitational, finishing the five kilometer course with a time of 20:15. DelGiorno finished third for the Pioneers and 26th overall, while also placing ninth out of 40 first year finishers.
The Red & White opened the 2023 season finishing fifth out of seven competing teams at the Marist Invitational with a team score of 118, including three top-30 finishes.
The Pioneers are back in action this weekend on Saturday, September 9, as they travel to Brookville, N.Y., to race at the LIU Fall Festival. Live streaming will be made available at necfrontrow.com, while race results will be available on sacredheartpioneers.com.
