Hwalek grabs Reserve High Point Rider while Estey nabes regional qualification

NORWALK, Conn. — The Sacred Heart University equestrian team completed its doubleheader weekend with a strong showing in the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) format on Sunday, claiming Reserve High Point Team honors at the NYU/Princeton show in Northport, N.Y.

The Pioneers were led by Kylie Hwalek, who grabbed her second-consecutive individual honor, claiming Reserve High Point Rider with a pair of top two placements. Hwalek claimed a consecutive victory in the Open Flat with a first place showing in Section A before having her string of first-place showings in the Open Fences cut at three having placed second in Section A.

In Fences, SHU grabbed strong outings from multiple riders with Norah Jackson and Ava Hufford claiming event wins in the Intermediate and Limit Fences, respectively. Ella DiFazio had a strong outing in Open Fences with a second place showing in Section C.

In the Flat portion of the show, SHU claimed five event wins and a regional qualification to grab points toward the day's team total. In the Open Flat, Nicole Albert grabbed the win in Section C coupled with Hwalek's win in Section A. Olivia Dolan grabbed a win in Section B of Novice Flat while Sofia Greene and Isabella Ruisi grabbed wins in Sections A and E of the Limit Flat, respectively. Cynthia Estey claimed another regional qualification for SHU with a second place showing in Section A of the Intermediate Flat as the Pios eventually placed as the Reserve High Point Team.
