Pryor is one of 25 players to earn this honor
HOPEWELL, N.J. – A day after being named to the All-MAAC Preseason First Team, Sacred Heart University women's basketball star Ny'Ceara Pryor was tabbed to the preseason watch list for the 2025 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award.
Pryor, who leads the Pioneers into their first season as Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) members, is coming off of one of the best seasons in Northeast Conference history. The Baltimore, Md., native set new career highs in scoring (18.7 ppg), rebounding (7.1 rpg), assists (4.5 apg) and shooting (.464 fg%), leading the league in scoring, assists, steals and field-goal percentage. She was named the NEC Player of the Year for the second straight year and was tabbed NEC Tournament MVP.
As a team, SHU lost just one NEC game last season, rolling to its second straight conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance. The Pioneers ended the season with a 24-10 overall record, which included a 15-game win streak.
To be eligible for this award, players must compete in one of the 26 conferences deemed to be "mid-major." The following conferences are considered high-major for the purposes of this award and thus ineligible: ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, and SEC. Additionally, Oregon State and Washington State players are ineligible this year as membership in the Pac-12 Conference evolves.
The Pioneers begin the 2024-25 season on Monday, Nov. 4, with a road bout at Hofstra at 7 p.m. in Hempstead, N.Y.
