Madison Sandquist claims her first Wrestler of the Month nod
MANHEIM, Pa. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced Wednesday afternoon that Sacred Heart University women's wrestling's Madison Sandquist was named the November NCAA Region 1 Wrestler of the Month.
Sandquist has carved her name in the history of Sacred Heart University's women's wrestling, becoming the second Pioneer to receive this esteemed recognition. She follows in the footsteps of her teammate Aaliyah Payne-Parris, who claimed the title in the 2023-24 season.
This season, wrestling at 180 pounds, Sandquist has soared to the top of the weight class regionally and is currently ranked third nationally, per the recent November rankings. Her record speaks volumes, with an outstanding 16-3, including seven tech fall victories and a thrilling 10-0 tech fall win over Lehigh's Genevieve Ann, the returning 2023-24 NCWWC National Champion, at the ESU Open. She recorded two first-place finishes at the ESU Open and Adrian Open, as well as recorded her 100th career win to kick off her senior year.
Sandquist is an automatic finalist for the NWCA's National Wrestler of the Month award, which will be announced later today.
Next, Sandquist and the Pioneers are gearing up for a thrilling challenge as they head to Naperville, Ill., on Sunday, Dec. 15, for the North Central College Open, hosted by North Central College. The matches are set to kick off at 9 AM inside the Residential Hall/Recreation Center.
