Velleco Secures 47th in 5k at CSCAA College Open Water Championship

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. - Sophia Velleco of the Sacred Heart University swim and dive team secured 47th place at the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) College Open Water Championship hosted by Florida International University (FIU) in the Biscayne Bay on Sunday morning.
Velleco dove into the bay at 10:00 a.m. as one of 108 women competing in the 5k. The sophomore completed the race in 1:10:41.51.
The majority of athletes ahead of the Connecticut native came from a power five or a higher level conference.
Velleco and the rest of the Pioneers return to action at home on Saturday, January 18th, against Central Connecticut State University.
