Jalen Madison finished fall with 948 rushing yards and seven touchdowns
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Grad running back Jalen Madison of the Sacred Heart University football team captured his first career All-New England nod after earning a spot on the Football Writers Division I New England All-Star Team, as announced on Sunday morning.
Madison is among 38 All-Star selections representing the 16 NCAA Division I colleges and universities that sponsor football in New England at the FBS and FCS levels. Madison is SHU's 24th All-New England honoree in the program, dating back to 2008. He joins fellow running backs Malik Grant, Julius Chestnut, and Keshaudas Spence, who have earned this honor during their tenure with the Pioneers.
The team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 12, at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel and Conference Center. Reservations must be made no later than Friday, December 6, at 4 p.m., and may be made at HERE. Tickets are $75/person.
Madison's journey this fall was one of personal growth and achievement. He had a breakout year on the offensive side of the ball for Sacred Heart, setting numerous season and career highs and etching his name in the program records books.
This season, Madison recorded four 100-yard rushing games against Georgetown, Stonehill, Mercyhurst, and Merrimack, with a career-best 170 coming against the Warriors in the season finale.
The Stratford, Conn. native also crossed the goal line seven times, including a career-high two at Lafayette, to finish the season as the team leader in touchdowns and second in scoring.
Madison concluded his career with the Pioneers seventh in yards per carry with 5.0, ninth in rushing yards with 2,071, and 10th in rushing attempts with 414. He also is tied in eighth, along with SHU alum Jason Payne, in a single season, averaging 5.7 (167-948) yards per carry.
Sacred Heart finished its first year as an independent school with an overall record of 5-6, including a thrilling 40-14 win over Patriot League opponent Georgetown on Homecoming and Family Weekend.
The Pioneers capped the 2024 regular season by securing the 2024 Yankee Conference Champions title after emerging victorious over Merrimack, 31-20, in North Andover, Mass.
