Pioneers Sit at Second After Day Two of the Gompei Invite

Hammarlund and Sanchez break SHU all-time top five
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Sacred Heart women's swim team sits second on the women's side after completing day two of the Gompei Invite hosted by WPI Saturday.
Saturday's events consisted of the 400 IM, 100 backstroke, 50 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 50 backstroke, and the 100 breaststroke. The top 30 swimmers from prelims advanced to finals.
Melanie Sanchez broke the SHU all-time top five, now sitting fourth, with her performance in the 400 IM with a time of 4:36.24 placing fifth. Daniella Palamaro was shortly behind her with a time of 4:39.81 placing eighth.
Meghan Hammarlund is now third all-time in the 100 backstroke with her time of 57.36 placing fourth. Kristen Baker also had an impressive performance placing seventh in a time of 58.55.
Emma Haas tied at first in the 50 butterfly in a time of 25.45.
In the 200 freestyle Sophia Velleco placed fourth in a time of 1:52.72, improving on her time from prelims.
Baker also finished third in the 50 backstroke in 27.02.
Rosemery Nieto improved her time in the 100 breaststroke from prelims finishing sixth in a time of 1:05.11.
