Pioneers Cruise Past Princeton on Senior Day

SHU honored its six seniors
FAIRFIELD, Conn.—The Sacred Heart University women's rugby team honored its six seniors on Sunday afternoon before cruising to a 51-6 victory over Princeton at home in 15s action. Caitlyn Caldon had a pair of tries as eight different Pioneers got on the board.
Caldon scored first in the opening three minutes. Alyssa Cunningham scored a try and followed up with a good conversion to put SHU ahead 12-0.
Ashley Torres-Brown, Caldon, and Avonlea Wood tallied the remainder of the scores in the first half as the Pioneers took a 29-0 advantage at the break.
Reece Woods opened the scoring in the second half with a try of her own, and the conversion for Cunningham was good to put the Pios ahead 36-0.
Reese Torticill added one more for SHU before Princeton took advantage of a penalty kick to get on the board with three. Fabiola Millien-Faustin answered with a try to put the Pioneers up, 46-3. Emily Slocombe rounded out scoring for SHU, scoring a try to take a 51-3 lead. Another penalty kick gave Princeton three more, but SHU walked away with the senior day victory, 51-6.

The Pioneers open 7s play next weekend, March 29 and 30, at the Tropical 7s Tournament in Tampa, Fla.
