SHU moves to 10-5 in NEC play this season
TEANECK, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University softball team clinched the season series against FDU Tuesday afternoon with a 2-1 victory in eight innings at the Knights' softball field.
With the victory, the Pioneers improve to 10-5 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play this season and move back into a tie for second in the league standings with a .667 conference win percentage.

The Pioneers got today's game rolling in the top of the first, taking a 1-0 lead after capitalizing on a FDU miscue. Cierra Bender started the scoring play with a three-base error after a Knights' misplay by their right fielder. Emily Carroll brought Bender home in the next at-bat with a single to left.
FDU evened the score at 1-1 in the third inning, when Megan Berg sent a missile over the center field fence for a solo homer.
Following the third inning, the game remained tied at 1-1 until the top of the eighth inning.
SHU led off the eighth by retaking the lead, 2-1. A hit-by-pitch was bookended by two quick outs as the Pios needed a break to take advantage in the game. Sacred Heart's opportunity came by way of back-to-back errors by FDU infielders, as Jenna Mowad came around to score the eventual game-winning run.
Emily Heath put the finishing touches on her win in the bottom of the eighth, sitting the Knights down in a row to earn her eighth win of the season. Heath threw the final 5.0 innings today, striking out five and giving up one base runner. Sam Kowalski started today and went three innings, allowing FDU's one run on the homer.
