The Pioneer’s feature eight home contests at Park Ave Field
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team released its fall 2024 schedule on Tuesday morning. The Pioneers will host eight contests at Park Ave Field while taking on new Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) competitors.
"We are excited to announce the schedule for our 2024 fall season as we move into our first season in the MAAC," said head coach Anthony Anzevui. "Our schedule features strong opposition, ensuring that we align with both the new strategic direction of the MAAC's RPI Model and our ambitions for the program."
The Pioneers begin play with back-to-back home games against Holy Cross (Aug. 22), meeting for the third straight season, and will face Fordham (Aug. 28) for the second time in program history.
Following its seven non-conference matches, including a pair against Ivy League opponents at Columbia (Sept. 14) and at Yale (Sept. 21), SHU will open MAAC play against Niagara at home on Sept. 28.
Sacred Heart will face its in-state conference rivals, Quinnipiac, at home on Oct. 5 and Fairfield, on the road on Oct. 30.
The Pios will face eight of the 11 MAAC opponents including, Merrimack, a former Northeast Conference (NEC) foe. Last season, SHU demonstrated their prowess by defeating the Warriors 4-1 in the regular season and edging them in PKs in the NEC Quarterfinal to advance to the team's second straight NEC semifinal.
Anzevui added "We are fortunate to have a great atmosphere at Park Ave Field and we look forward to that support again as we face new challenges ahead in the MAAC."
The Pioneers will wrap up their regular season at home against Manhattan on Nov. 6.
