Women’s Ice Hockey Picked Third in NEWHA Coaches’ Poll

The Pioneers open the season at home vs. RPI on Oct. 4
WINTHROP, Mass. — Having a strong regular season in 2023-24 with a fourth-place overall finish and hosting rights in the 2024 New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Postseason, the Sacred Heart University women's hockey team has been slotted third in the NEWHA Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Red & White gathered 37 total points in the voting process and earned two first-place votes, the second most of the three teams who received first-place votes.
Last season's regular season champions, LIU took the top spot in today's rankings with five first-place votes after posting an impressive 26-2-0 record in conference and 28-9-0 overall. Last season's NEWHA Tournament champ, Stonehill, is second on the list with one first-place nod.
Outside of the top three, Saint Anselm took fourth place, just ahead of Franklin Pierce. Assumption was picked sixth in the rankings, while Post and Saint Michael's rounded out the poll in seventh and eighth place, respectively.
Heading into his 22nd season, Head coach Thomas O'Malley returns a plethora of talented players. Leading the group is reigning NEWHA Rookie of the Year Isabella Chaput. Paige McNeil and Sydney Antonakis will serve as co-captains this season, while Kate Helgeson and Jillian Petruno will be alternate captains.
The Pioneers are set to open the 2024-25 season at Martire Family Arena on October 4 against RPI as part of Family Weekend at the university. More information can be found at sacredheartpioneers.com.
