FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Fresh off its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) road win, the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team wraps its Western New York trip on Saturday, January 25 against Niagara at 2 pm.

OPENING TIP

• Sacred Heart and Niagara meet for the first time on Saturday as the Pioneers wrap up their Western New York trip. 
• SHU is coming off a 93-84 victory over Canisius on Thursday evening. Mekhi Conner had an assist/point double-double with 10 points and 16 assists. Six Pios scored in double figures in their first MAAC road victory. Tanner Thomas (18), Amiri Stewart (16), Bryce Johnson (15), Anquan Hill (13), Nyle Ralph-Beyer (12), Conner (10). 
• Niagara is coming off a 67-65 overtime home loss to Marist on Thursday. 
• Conner's 16 assists on Thursday are tied for the second-most assists in a Division I game this season. He is the 10th player in MAAC history to have 16 or more assists in a game.
• Three Pioneers are averaging double figures: Thomas (15.7), Stewart (12.3), and Hill (11.3). 
• Bryce Johnson leads the team in rebounds with 6.1 per game, followed by Thomas (5.6) and Hill (4.7). 
• Conner is the team leader in assists (5.6) & Stewart (1.9) in steals.
• Thomas was named to the All-MAAC preseason third team. 
• This year is Sacred Heart's first season as a full-time member of the MAAC.
• The Pioneers have 10 new players on the team. 
• Head Coach Anthony Latina is in his 12th season as head coach and 20th year overall with the Pioneers.

• First-year Mekhi Conner recorded his first double-double with 10 points and a career-high 16 assists as the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team defeated Canisius 93-84.
• Conner is the first Pioneer to tally a double-double in assists and points since Cameron Parker did so on January 12, 2019.
• Sacred Heart held a lead and never let up. There were four ties throughout the game.
• The Pios made a season-best 15 three-pointers, shooting 52.5% (31-59) from the field and 50% (15-30) from behind the arc.

ABOUT NIAGARA    

• Niagara is 7-12 overall and 2-6 in MAAC play. They have wins over Siena (69-68) and Saint Peter's (70-60). The Purple Eagles are coming off a 67-65 overtime loss to Marist.
• Olumide Adelodun is the only player averaging double figures, 10.6, and he is also the team leader in rebounds, with 5.4. 
• Niagara was selected eighth in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
