FAIRFIELD, Conn. - A pair of second-period power-play goals helped LIU to a 3-0 victory over the Sacred Heart women's hockey team at Martire Family Arena.
The two teams split a weekend series with each winning on the other's ice. The Pioneers blanked the Sharks 1-0 on Long Island on Saturday night.
The split keeps the teams tied for first place in the NEWHA with 39 points apiece.

OF NOTE
• After a scoreless first period, LIU used two power play goals to seize control. The first came early in the period and the second late.
• The Pioneers played a strong third period, outshooting the Sharks 10-7, and had opportunities but LIU goalie Abbie Thompson turned away all 10 shots. Bri Eid's empty-net goal with 2:05 left sealed the victory for LIU. The Sharks also successfully killed a two-minute penalty in the third.

Carly Greene, who shutout the Sharks on Saturday, had another strong game, finishing with 25 saves.

Olivia LaRoche and
Kailey Smith – played in their 100th career game. LaRoche had three shots, while Smith, who scored the only goal in Saturday's win, had two blocked shots.
WHAT'S NEXT
Sacred Heart is back at Martire on Friday to host Assumption. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. The two teams then complete the two-game weekend series in Worcester on Saturday.
