Four Pioneers appointed to team leadership
FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse head coach Jon Basti has announced the team captains for the 2026 season. Graduate defensive midfielder Luke Catolico returns as captain for the second straight year and will be joined by seniors Craig Daria, John Murray, and Finn Hoey.
Catolico, a four-year member of the program, has been a cornerstone of the Pioneers' defensive unit. A 2025 All-MAAC First Team selection, he caused nine turnovers and collected 27 ground balls last season.
Daria, a senior goalkeeper, will lead the Pioneers' defense between the pipes. Also a four-year member, he has made five career appearances while backing up SHU's all-time wins and saves leader, Alex Pazienza.
Hoey, a senior defender, was a key contributor to Sacred Heart's defensive success last season. Starting all 15 games, he recorded 11 caused turnovers, 23 ground balls, and added one goal.
Murray, entering his fourth season, was one of the Pioneers' top offensive threats in 2025. He ranked second on the team with 23 goals and 38 points, earning All-MAAC First Team honors. Murray provided clutch performances throughout the year, including overtime game-winners against Siena (March 15) and Marist (March 29).
All four captains were instrumental in helping Sacred Heart capture back-to-back MAAC regular-season titles (2024, 2025) and the 2024 MAAC Tournament Championship.
