Fairfield – Conn. – Another week, another two awards for the Sacred Heart women's volleyball team as sophomore libero Miliani Villarreal added to her tally with her sixth Libero of the Week accolade and first year outside hitter Abbie Hagedorn secured her first Jersey Mike's MAAC Rookie of the Week honors as announced by the conference office.
The honors for Villarreal and Hagedorn come after a weekend sweep over Niagara and Canisius for the Pioneers as they head into the final weekend of the regular season with road matches against Iona and Manhattan on the docket for Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Sacred Heart's starting libero, Villarreal led the defensive efforts averaging 4.25 digs per set with 34 combined across the two matches. Additionally, she added 15 assists and two service aces. The Murrieta, Calif. native, Villarreal finished both matches last weekend with 17 digs and now stands 43 shy of surpassing her own single season record for digs after recently recording her 1,000th career dig against Siena (Nov. 1).
Hagedorn, who is the second Pioneer to earn Rookie of the Week accolades this season, was the leading hitter for the Pioneers collecting 29 kills on a .273 attack percentage while adding 31 digs in four-set wins over Canisius and Niagara. The rookie finished both matches with a double double, starting with 15 kills and 15 digs against the Golden Griffins and closing out the weekend with 14 kills and 16 digs against the Purple Knights.
