Kendrick named SHU player of the game after first career shutout

BELFAST, Northern Ireland – The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team fought its way to a gritty 3-0 win over league mate RIT in the third-place game of the 2025 Friendship Four Tournament.

Records:
SHU: 7-6-1
RIT: 9-6-0

How It Happened:
Both teams spent the first period figuring each other out, as both teams finished with single-digit shots. With the ramped-up defensive pressure, the game transitioned to the second scoreless period.

The Sacred Heart attack came alive in the second, outshooting the Tigers 13-6, flipping the momentum to their side of the ice. Despite the revitalized offense, SHU did not the back of the net until 16:31 in the period.

Michael Rubin broke the deadlock with his first goal of the season, to give SHU a 1-0 advantage. The goal came right off the draw, as Charles Tardif sent the faceoff to Rubin, who bullied his way in front of the crease before lifting a shot over the netminder's left leg.

The third featured another defensive battle as SHU's 1-0 lead held at the 18:48 mark when the Tigers took a timeout and pulled the goalie. The Pioneers took advantage of the empty net, with Felix Trudeau and Reid Pabich both scoring over the final 55 seconds to ice the Pioneers' victory.

In goal, first year Teagan Kendrick was outstanding, making 26 saves to earn his first career win and shutout. In recognition of his stellar play, Kendrick was named the player of the game for SHU.

Notes:

The Pioneers place third at the 2025 Friendship Four.
Kendrick picked up his first collegiate win and shutout today.
Trudeau's goal is his league-leading 13th this season.
Rubin's goal is his first this season and the second of his career.
SHU has beaten RIT three times already this season.
Today's shutout is the Pioneers' first since the season-opener at RIT on Oct. 10.
With two assists tonight, Marcus Joughin is up to 75 points in his career (19-56-75).
Pabich scored his second goal of the season and is two points shy of 50 in his career (18-30-48).

After returning to the USA, Sacred Heart will host a weekend AHA series against Army on Friday-Saturday, Dec. 5-6, at the Martire Family Arena. The opener on Friday is slated to start at 7 p.m.
