Complete Release
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – First-year running back Mitchell Summers of the Sacred Heart University football team was named to the 2025 FCS Football Central Freshman All-American Team, officially released early Monday afternoon.
The postseason honors continue to stack up for the Greensboro, N.C., native. Summers was recently selected to the All-New England Team by the New England Football Writers Association and was a finalist for the Stats Perform FCS Jerry Rice Award. He has also earned the Stats Perform FCS National Freshman Player of the Week and the New England Football Writers Gold Helmet Award following his explosive breakout performance against Howard earlier this season.
Summers was a driving force for the Pioneers throughout the year, emerging as one of the top young playmakers in the FCS. He totaled 1,071 rushing yards on 198 carries, averaging 5.4 yards per attempt and scoring 12 touchdowns. His signature outing came in the win over Howard, when he erupted for a career-high 243 yards and two touchdowns, highlighted by an electrifying 80-yard score. His consistency proved just as valuable, posting four 100-yard games—including a pivotal 147-yard performance in the victory over Merrimack that pushed him past the 1,000-yard milestone and into the SHU record book.
