Men’s Volleyball Drops Match to Merrimack

Beranek led the Pioneers with 14 points
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's volleyball team fell to Merrimack at home Saturday night, 4-1. The Pioneers break their winning streak and are 3-1 heading into conference play.
Records:
SHU: 3-1 (EIVA 0-0)
Merrimack: 2-3
Top Performers:
Petr Beranek: 14 kills, 3 digs
Austin Buchanan: 34 assists, 2 block assists, 1 solo block
How It Happened:
The Pioneers secured the first set 25-20. SHU kept within two points of Merrimack until tying things up at the media timeout. The Pios pulled away in the second half of the set going on an 11-5 run. Aleksa Mandic secured the set with a kill.
Merrimack pulled away early in the second and SHU was unable to respond falling 25-19.
The Warriors secured an early five-point lead in the third. SHU was able to come within three but ultimately fell 25-20.
The fourth match was closely contested with nine ties. The Warriors went on a 9-3 run to secure the set 25-20.

The Pioneers open conference play next weekend at home as they face the University of Charleston on Saturday, February 8, at 7 p.m.
