Men’s Golf Picked First in MAAC Coaches Poll

The Pioneers open the spring on February 15
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After multiple years of sustained success in the Northeast Conference (NEC), the Sacred Heart University men's golf program took the top spot in the team's first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced Thursday.
SHU earned 109 points in the poll with five of 11 first-place votes. Fairfield was tabbed second with 101 points and one first-pace nod. Iona rounded out the top three with 94 points while defending MAAC champs Siena was fourth (91).
Manhattan and Mount St. Mary's tied for fifth in the rankings with 73 points, while Canisius was seventh with 54. The poll was rounded out by Merrimack (42), Niagara & Rider (31) and Saint Peter's (27).
The Pioneers have also had a strong start to the 2024-25 campaign, tallying four top 5's in their six events during the fall portion of the schedule. SHU tallied a win at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Golf Invitational and took second at the Ryan Lee Intercollegiate. Both events featured multiple MAAC teams, with Sacred Heart's win at the Matthews Invite coming over six MAAC programs.
