Men's Basketball Wraps Up Weekend Roadtrip at Saint Peter's on Sunday

SHU travels to Saint Peters after road win over Merrimack

FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Following a thrilling 60-59 road victory over Merrimack on Friday evening, the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team wraps up its two-game road trip to Saint Peter's on Sunday at 2:00 pm.

Opening Tip:
  • Sacred Heart and Saint Peter's will meet for the second time this season on Sunday and the third time overall in series history. The Peacocks own a 2-0 advantage in the series. Saint Peter's defeated SHU 66-61 earlier this season on January 18 at SHU. 
  • The Pioneers are coming off a thrilling 60-59 road victory over Merrimack on Friday. The Peacocks are coming off a 69-58 loss to Mount St. Mary's. 
  • Anquan Hill (17 pt, 10 rbs) and Bryce Johnson (10 pts, 10 rbs) both tallied their third double-double of the season, and Tanner Thomas scored 12 points for three players in double figures against Merrimack.
  • Three Pioneers are averaging double figures: Thomas (14.8), Hill (12.7), and Amiri Stewart (12.2). 
  • Thomas is the team leader in rebounds with 6.3, followed by Bryce Johnson (5.9) and Hill (5.1).
  • Mekhi Conner is in the top 20 in the nation with 165 assists this season and is in the top 15 in assists per game with 6.3. 
  • Sacred Heart's 9.7 three-pointers per game is 35th in the country.
  • Thomas was named to the All-MAAC preseason third team. 
  • This is Sacred Heart's first season as a full-time member of the MAAC.
  • The Pioneers have 10 new players on the team. 
  • Head Coach Anthony Latina is in his 12th season as head coach and 20th year overall with the Pioneers.   
Last Time Out:
  • Sacred Heart defeated Merrimack 60-59 on the road on Friday evening.
  • Anquan Hill and Bryce Johnson both tallied their third double-double of the season. Hill scored a team-high 17 points with 10 rebounds and Johnson had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Tanner Thomas also scored in double figures with 12 points.
  • Hill shot 58.3% (7-12) from the field, Thomas was 54.5% (6-11), and Johnson shot 42.8% (3-7) from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line.
  • The game was tied 11 times. Sacred Heart's largest lead was five and Merrimack's largest was six.
  • The Warriors made two or three free throws with three seconds left to play, unable to tie the game, giving SHU the 60-59 victory.

  • Saint Peter's is 9-14 overall and 4-11 in the MAAC, sitting in 12th place.

  • Marcus Randolph (14.8) leads three players in double figures; Armoni Zeigler (10.6) and Bryce Eaton (10.3) all have double figures. Mouhamed Sow is the team leader in rebounds at 6.3.
