Alvim Named USFCA All-Region in Epee

Earns honorable mention recognition in Northeast

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Maria Alvim, who will represent Sacred Heart in women's epee at the NCAA Fencing Championship this weekend, has added an honorable mention All-Northeast Region selection to her already impressive resume.

The All-Region selections are determined based on result and field size at each of the NCAA Regional competitions.

Alvim, from Lisbon, Portugal, finished 19th at the Northeast Regionals earlier this month. In February, she fenced at the Senior World Cup in Barcelona Spain, and in November, she finished 18-1 to take first place in epee at the NFC Championship, earning First Team All-Conference honors.

Alvim begins competition at the NCAAs on Saturday at Penn State.
