The Pioneers welcome Coach Amakihe as the new linebackers coach
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart University football head coach Mark Nofri announced exciting changes to his 2025 coaching staff, including the addition of a new linebackers coach and a promotion within the current staff.
Earning the promotion is Nate Marr, who served as the Director of Football Operations last season, has been named the General Manager, Director of Football Operations, and Recruiting Coordinator. Joining the Pioneers staff from the University of Dayton is Paul Amakihe and he will be overseeing the linebacker position.
"We are excited about our coaching staff as we prepare for the 2025 season," said Nofri. "Our staff does a tremendous job of prioritizing the student-athlete experience and making sure we are putting our players in a position to succeed, both on and off the field. I look forward to seeing guys thrive in these new roles."
Marr came to SHU from Saint John's Catholic Prep, where he was the youngest head coach in Maryland at 27 and led the team to its first winning season in nearly a decade. Prior to spending two season with the Vikings, Marr was at Concordia Prep for one season as the Co-Offensive and Special Teams Coordinator and Quarterbacks/Wide Receivers Coach. He helped the team to a 10-2 record and a MIAA Championship. Before his stint with the Saints, Marr spent four seasons at McDaniel coaching running backs and special teams, coordinating recruiting, and managing operations while helping produce six All-Centennial Conference selections.
Amakihe joins SHU from the University of Dayton, where he coached linebackers for two seasons and helped lead the defense to a No. 1 ranking in FCS for total passing and first downs allowed in 2024. He also managed the punt rush and field goal block units. Previously, he coached outside linebackers at Carnegie Mellon in 2022, helping the team to an 11-1 record and an NCAA Division III playoff berth. Amakihe also served as defensive run game coordinator and linebackers coach at Wilkes University, including a stint as interim defensive coordinator in 2022. His coaching career also includes time at McDaniel College (2018-21) and SUNY Cortland, where he coached tight ends.
