FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team snapped a two-game losing skid on Wednesday afternoon at Campus Field, defeating Rider by a score of 10-5 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) clash to give head coach Laura Korutz her 200th career win with the Pioneers.

Jamie Tanner led the offensive attack for SHU, who finished the game with a team-high three points behind two goals and one assist. The team's offensive diversity was on full display, with Bella Calvaneese, Shea Insinga, and Maggie Araneo also serving as offensive threats, scoring two points each.

Defensively, Taylor Farace finished with a season-high three caused turnovers, three ground balls, and two draw control wins, while Sydney Saba added two caused turnovers to the Pioneers' stat line.

Between the pipes, we saw Lisa Martin, a key player in the team's success, earn her fourth win of the season behind a six-save performance.

How it Happened:
Sacred Heart stormed out of the gate with five unanswered goals in the opening quarter. Ellie Edwards opened the scoring at 12:14 with an unassisted tally, followed quickly by Insinga's solo effort less than a minute later. The Pioneers continued to pour it on, with Tanner scoring off an assist from Adisyn Bernhardt, Bella Calvanese adding one unassisted, and Farace capping the early offensive burst to give SHU a commanding 5-0 lead. Rider finally broke through late in the first with a goal by Selena Carrington, but Sacred Heart kept the pressure on in the second.

Maggie Araneo extended the lead to 6-1 before Rider chipped away with goals from Toni Gismondi and Anna Devlin. In between, Calvanese netted her second of the game - this time on a man-up opportunity, assisted by Jenna Lively - to give the Pioneers a 7-3 edge at halftime.

The third quarter saw both teams exchange goals, with Carrington striking again for Rider and Araneo answering just over a minute later to push SHU's lead to 8-4. Rider's Katie Walsh scored to bring the Broncs within three, 8-5, entering the final frame.

Sacred Heart closed the door in the fourth, as Tanner scored her second goal of the game at 8:41, followed by Insinga's second to seal the 10-5 victory.

The Pioneers hit the road this weekend as they travel to North Andover, Mass. for a Saturday, April 12th MAAC clash with the Merrimack Warriors. Game time is set for 3:30PM.
